Photos for cover

These are some of the photos that I took the first time around.
I took them in SouthBank near the skating area.
I tried to capture the essence of the area by making the graffiti visable in the background.

Graph 9

I asked this to find out what attracts people to music magazines so I know how I should sturcture my magazine around the feedback that I got. This graph shows that people tend to go for the image of the group/artist on the cover, rather than anything else.

Graph 8

Because of the latest internet technology, plenty of magazines and newspapers are now available online so I thought that making mine available online, would make it easier for people to access. But by doing this could cause financial problems for my publishers because you're not paying to see this magazine online. Although my audience research shows that people would want my music magazine to be availbale online, it is something to be thought about.

Graph 7

This was simply to find out how much people would be willing to pay for a magazine if it included everything that they wanted. I was suprised to see that more people would pay more than £3.00 for a music magazine.

Graph 6

I asked this to find out whether people would want a magazine aimed at one genre or a mixture. Most people would prefer a mixture, as you are paying a certain amount of money for more, than the same amount for one. It works out better for money.

Graph 5

“What would you want your music magazine to include?” Asking this question allows me to know what interests music magazine readers, and what they would want their magazine to include. All of the questions I asked had an equal amount in response. This shows that one is not favoured more than the other. This helps my magazine development because now, I can include all four of these factors.

Graph 4

I did this to get a general idea of what genre of music people listen to so I can adjust my music magazine to suit their needs. The top genre is Hip-hop/R’n’B with 33%, but because I want my magazine to conform to these genre’s, I will merge the most popular genre’s into my magazine as well, giving my magazine a diverse edge

Graph 3

Are you interested in a music magazine?” I asked this question so that I could get an idea of how many people would be interested in a music magazine. Considering that I asked random people at a shopping centre, I feel that this is a good generalisation. This graph shows that about 93% of people would be interested in a music magazine.

Graph 2

“How old are you?” I asked this question to see if I could get a rough estimate of the ages of the readers of magazines in general. This could also help me structure and adjust my music magazine around this age. This also gives me a general idea of what age people tend to read magazines a lot.

My results

“Are you Male or Female?” I asked this question to get a general idea of how many people male and female, would want a magazine. In this graph, females would like the magazine more, so I will try to make it appeal to both, but a little bit more to females.

Celebrities/Group or artist on the cover

The lighting for this image is very low-key and is in a sepia kind of tone. The centre image of the groups lead singer, gives us a general idea of what the groups genre of music. My Chemical Romance have been recognised for being a heavy metal rock group. Their appearance in this magazine and on TV shows, tell me that they are a hard-hitting rock group. In this image of the lead singer on the left hand side, we see a very low-key lit background with the drummer in the bottom right hand corner. The lead singer, is dressed very rock-ish. He has tight fitted jeans on with a plain black t-shirt, covered with a tight fitting jeans jacket.
His rough appearance tells us, the audience, that they are indeed a rock group. The position of the drummers hands, show that the photo was taken during a rehearsal or a performance. The singer is not facing the camera. This could be significant as this could connote the idea of the band not conforming to the ideas of society. My Chemical Romance is also known for their dark and sinister meanings in their songs and this double-page spread shows this as the images are very dark. The colour red and white are used in this, setting a theme. The red could be for the “romance” part of the groups name and the white could be for the “Chemical” as chemical laboratory technicians wear white coats.
All of the images on the page are of some sort of significance. The images of other members of the group are smaller and don’t seem to be as important as the image of the lead singer. I feel that the magazine has done this on purpose to show how important the lead singer is to the group. The title “WERE BEING THE BEST MCR WE CAN BE!” is a quote taken from the interview conducted with My Chemical Romance. The different colours for the different lines of speech, makes it stand out to the reader more and makes it more interesting to look at. I noticed that (the title mostly,) the writing on the page is not straight. This could connote the groups crooked and “off the rails” life style.
In the first image along the bottom, we see the group’s bass guitarist playing the guitar, looking in the direction of the crowd and focused. His clothes are black and seem to have some sort of design on the front. This is a medium close up of him and it shows the activity in which he is enduring. The second image along the bottom is of the group as a whole, together possible discussing their next song or the production of a song. This image shows the togetherness of the group and shows the love that they have for each other. They seem to feel comfortable around each other and are smiling connoting a loving and caring community.
The third and final image is of the lead singer, once again, singing into a microphone that is usually found in a studio. There is a white strip coming from the top right hand corner that has some more information about the groups music, stating their latest tracks.

Analysis of an exsisting Music Magazine: "Vibe"

In the front cover for this magazine, the colours are very bright and vibrant. They connote a life of cash and expensive material things. Lil’ Wayne, the main image in the picture is standing on a Thrown which shows that he feels that he rules, most probably the music industry. His top half is well dressed, almost like a young American college student. His laces are undone, connoting raggedness about him and his tattoo that cover the whole of his lower leg connote his type of lifestyle. On Lil’ Wayne, there is high-key lighting on his forehead and his knee showing a light and humour filled community.
The words “Lil WAYNE” next to the centre image, tell us that the person in the centre image is in fact, Lil’ Wayne. The colour scheme is mostly, Blue, yellow, white and orange. This colour scheme gives the magazine a theme of royalty as the centre image also consists of a thrown. In the past ‘Lil’ Wayne has often referred himself as the King of Hip-Hop and R’n’B so by Vibe magazine giving his the thrown conforms to his idea of being the king.
Also the fact that he isn’t seated but is standing on what is considered as being a very valuable and respected seat in authority, also conforms to the idea that he feels that he has the moral high-ground to do whatever he likes.
The title of the magazine is in one of the most noticeable things but is in the background. The title is not directly on the top of the magazine but is lower down and is behind our centre-images head.
The “V” on vibe seems to have a medallion hanging from it stating that Vibe is the “Hottest” magazine. This makes the magazine for appealing to an audience as it has been recognised for being a good magazine. The name of the magazine almost seems to be pushing down on Lil’ Wayne’s head as he is bending his head lower down. This could be used to connote that Lil’ Wayne wants to be the centre of attention and that the name also wants to be the centre of attention.
The colour of the title stands out and makes the front cover appealing to the audience. ‘VIBE’ magazine has been recognised for its knowledge of Hip-Hop and R’n’B music so, this magazine would be directed to people that have a love for that kind of genre of music.
Around the side are the stories of which are going to be included in the magazine. Most of these stories appear to be about other rappers and other Hip-Hop and R’n’B artists. All the font on the page seems to be the same but only written in different sizes. The more important factors are written in big bolder writing and the small writing is the smaller and not so important
